Transitioning
November 15, 2008 – 9:48 amI’m honored to be named as co-leader of the FCC review team for the Obama-Biden Transition Project, along with the wonderful and brilliant Susan Crawford. (Yes, “Ken Werbach” is me — I’m working on getting the typo fixed on the website.)
The FCC has a vital role to play in the nascent Network Age. During the campaign, Barack Obama and his advisors demonstrated an understanding of the transformative power of today’s communications technologies. I’m excited to help carry over that understanding in the Transition to his Administration.
Bear with me — I won’t be able to respond to emails, tweets, and phone calls as quickly or reliably as I’d like. We have a tremendous amount of work to do, and not much time to do it. But I’m fired up, and ready to go.

Congratulations! Great to see the Obama-Biden team makes picks based on competence instead of shareholdership of Halliburton and the likes.
As JP says, these are exciting times.

Cool. I’ve used some of your code and read your Web site a lot in the past.

Kevin:
I hope that, in your role on the transition team, you will help to temper some of the radical, impractical, and counterproductive lobbyists who are lobbying for what they call “network neutrality” but what is in fact dangerously restrictive regulation of the Internet and Internet service providers. As a small, rural, independent Internet provider, I’ve reviewed the proposed legislation and regulations, and they would drive small, independent and rural providers such as us right out of business. With independent ISPs unable to survive, we’d be left with a rapacious duopoly. (For more on this vital issue, see my testimony before the FCC at the link above.) Please inject some good sense into the process and prevent the appointment of lobbyists and extremists to the FCC.

This is awesome news, Kevin. I’m sure you and Susan will do a great job. Love to help any way I can, even if it’s just cheering along. (Which I’ll do anyway.) Rock on.

Happy for you, Kevin, and proud of the President-elect for tapping great webheads as well. Though I doubt you’ll need it, let me know if you need anything.

Incidentally, this would be a good time to make a copy of “The Centripetal Network” available to interested readers.

good. I hope you remove all the bullshit censoring seen on the internet. When Obama says CHANGE I hope you mean CHANGE and liberation of the internet from corporate, moralist AND government forces.

If you can manage Gruul’s Lair and Karazhan and get almost 9000 honorable PvP kills you must have some abilities Americans can believe in.

Hi Kevin,
Congratulations on being picked for the transition team! It is great to have a fellow Horde there.
I realize you’re very busy, but if you have a moment… do you have any comments on Deborah Tate’s comments regarding WoW being a major cause of college dropouts?

Only level 72! (I armoried you). Good to see you are a fellow Jenkins, but come on. I have three level 80s. Just because you are a real world hotshot doesn’t mean you should abandon your tauren.
