Washington Post: "Some of the nation’s largest retailers this week started voluntarily collecting taxes on all of their online sales."

It’s surpising that this is happening voluntarily, since Congress appears willing to keep extending the Net sales tax moratorium. Sales taxes on e-commerce are inevitable, because there is no reason to subsidize online transactions out of local government revenues. The sticking point has always been the collection mechanisms and how to avoid unreasonable burdens on the retailers.
