Finally, a decent spam solution

Arnold Kling turned me on to PopFile, a Bayesian spam filter written in Perl that runs on Windows as well as other platforms. Conveniently, it’s designed as a POP proxy rather than a plug-in to Outlook, which means even us goofy Eudora users can take advantage of it. I’ve just started training it, and the results are encouraging.

I still maintain that most people will ultimately go to whitelists to deal with spam. For people like me who are willing to install and train a Bayesian filter, along with three other layers of manual and automated filtering, the spam nightmare may be over. I just don’t think mainstream users will do that. Especially since the spammers will take countermeasures that require further effort to combat.
